The 7-day, 545 mile AIDS/LifeCycle from San Francisco to Los Angeles
Day 5 – Red Dress Day

The Iron Taints

Hi Lee,

I hope you’re well!

Two weeks ago I learned, first-hand, the true meaning of community as I volunteered as a photographer for the 7-day, 545-mile AIDS/LifeCycle Ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

For one week 3,200 Cyclists, Roadies, and Volunteers join ranks creating the “love bubble”, all united to bring awareness to the fight to end AIDS.

I have never witnessed, nor been part of such a large, caring, supportive, and dedicated group of humans. It was nothing less than a life-changing experience.

Please help me achieve my fundraising goal of $10,000.00 for AIDS/Lifecycle. Your generous tax-deductible donation can be made by clicking on this link:

WHY THEY WEAR “RED” ON THURSDAYS
The Wheely Nice Guys

In 1993, organizers of the original California AIDS Ride suggested riders “dress in red” to symbolically represent the red AIDS ribbon. By creating a traveling red ribbon of cyclists on the road, they hoped to bring awareness to the fight to end AIDS. Over time, “dress in red” morphed into “red dress”, a day of creativity and community.

If you don’t know much about the ride, here’s a description:

It’s a life-changing ride—not a race—through some of California’s most beautiful countryside. AIDS/LifeCycle is co-produced by the Los Angeles LGBT Center and San Francisco AIDS Foundation. Through outreach, education, and advocacy their shared goal is to reduce the number of new HIV infections, and improve the quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS. “

The more than 3,200 people participating as Cyclists, Roadies, Volunteers, and Virtual Cyclists are asked to raise the critically needed funds for free HIV/AIDS-related services, and to raise awareness that HIV/AIDS is still a devastating disease in our society, particularly the LGBT community and communities of color.

Thank you for your support of this very worthy cause!

Warm regards,

Steve
